Trimmers, Shavers, Clippers: What is the difference?

There are a few tools that you may use to address your hair problems. There are men who would rather use a trimmer to maintain a stubble look.

Clippers, on the other hand, are used when one needs to cut through a longer lock of hair. The also come with attachments to allow the user to adjust the trim with the length of the hair.

Trimmers may or may not have these attachments. They are also designed with thinner blades, which makes it easier for this tool to be used to cut through finer hairs. Trimmers are commonly used around the neck and the chin. These tools are of smaller size compared to clippers and can be used to trim other parts of the body, such as your underarm and chest. As such, trimmers can any be of the following: hair trimmer, beard trimmer, ear and nose trimmer, or a bikini trimmer.

Electric shavers, on the other hand, are basically electric razors. These tools have either round or foil blades. They can also be either wet or dry, which means these tools can be used with or without applying some foam, cream or lubricant before shaving. Shavers leaves a clean and slick finish which might not be achieved by using a trimmer alone.

Juicing vs. Blending

Juicing vs. Blending

A lot of clients ask me what is better juicing or smoothies. The answer is, both! Consuming vegetables in a juice or smoothie form allows you to get the full nutrient absorption, better than consuming raw or cooked food. However there is a difference between the two. Here are a few facts:

Facts about Juicing: When you juice you are extracting water and nutrients from the foods., leaving out the fiber. This makes things a lot easier on our digestive system. Allowing all the nutrients to go straight to the blood stream. Juicing also allows you to consume more veggies then you normally would. When you juice you add handfuls of greens, carrots, ect… then you normally would a salad or smoothie.

Facts about blending: When you blend you are keeping the fiber, water and nutrients. Blending breaks up the fiber making you feel fuller faster and delivering nutrients slowly to the blood stream. Some also prefer smoothies because it is thicker in consistency.

I personally love both juices and smoothies. I choose a smoothie when I am in a rush or want a fuller feeling after a work out or first thing in the morning. I prefer to drink juices throughout the day and in between meals as it is easy on the digestive system, a great boost of energy and not as filling. Best answer I can give is whatever is best for your lifestyle, making a smoothie or juice is a great way to add more vegetables into your daily routine.

Super food Brownies

This past Friday, I joined two other wellness guru’s for a night of beauty, health, and wellness tips. I spoke about the importance of vitamins and nutrients needed for glowing skin and shiny, strong hair. I brought a long some super beauty foods for guests to taste. One of the treats were these super food brownies! I consider them “guiltless” desserts because they are packed with superfoods that are great for you. Cacao is a superfood packed with anti aging antioxidants called flavonoids. Flavonoids help fight free radicals preventing UV damage, wrinkles and skin discoloration. Cacao also releases feel good chemicals that promote the sensation of love and happiness! When you feel happy, it shows! Another superfood ingredient used is Maca. Maca (a root from the radish family. Grown in Peru) is packed with B vitamins and minerals that help your body absorb nutrients. This is great for clearing skin blemish’s, and helping prevent and treat acne. These are the perfect treat for a party or when you need to curb your sweet craving! Enjoy!

My top 10 favorite foods for beautiful, glowing skin

I suffered from acne as a kid. I tried everything; over the counter products, dermatologist perscribed creams, scrubs and treatments. Nothing seemed to work. Little did I know at the time that my diet played a huge role in my breakouts. I was in love with chocolate, those little debbie and hostess snacks for lunch, chips and pizza whenever I could get it. It wasnt until I started traveling and my diet started to change that my skin really cleared up. I started to notice the difference in my skin when I would eat a diet high in greens, nuts and colorful fruits and veggies. Lesson learned, clear skin starts from within. Now that I am getting older I not only want foods that will help keep my skin clear but also help prevent wrinkles and sun damage.

Here are my top 10 favorite foods that have benefits to keep your skin glowing. (In no perticular order)

1. Water

One of the most simple ways to clear skin is by drinking water. When you drink enough water you help rid the body of toxins. Drinking enough water throughout each day means upping your fluid levels to keep the brain fully functioning, reducing stress and also replenishing water in your cells. A good rule of thumb is to drink 1/2 your body weight in fluid ounces each day.

2. Tomatoes

The red pigment that gives tomatoes its bright color is called lycopene. Lycopene helps stimulate skin circulation to keep you glowing. Also rich in vitamin C which helps keep the skin firm by aiding in collagen production.

For me, the most noticiable difference in my skin happened when I added greens into my diet. Eating them every day. There are many leafy greens that have benefits for the skin but Kale is my favorite. Its great raw in salads or steamed and seasoned, and also juiced. Kale is a knock out green that contains vitamins A, B complex, C, E and K as well as high levels of manganese, calcium, potasium, iron, magnesium, protein, folate and phosphorus.

4. Sweet Potato

This is such a great root vegetable to add to your diet. Sweet Potato’s are a complex carbohydrate which helps regulate blood sugar by slowly releasing sugar over time. Its important to regulate blood sugar to keep stress levels down in the body, stress leads to breakouts. Also containing beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A to help send oxygen to the skin.

5. Avocado

I love avocado’s for so many reasons but one great reason is the benefits it has for the skin. Loaded with vitamin E to boost the skins glow, packed with vitamin C to reduce inflamation and produce collagen. Avocado oil is also known for keeping skin moistureized inside/out.

6. Kidney beans

Kidney beans

Great in salads, soups and chili. Kidney beans are high in zinc which is known to fight blemishes and zap zits!

7. Oatmeal

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and when I learned of all the benefits of oatmeal I added it to my rotation of favorites. Full of vitamins, oatmeal helps keep blood sugar stable which is important for hormone levels that can contribute to wrinkles. Oats are also found to be healing for the skin when you soak your body in a tub with them.

8. Peppers

Green, Red, Oranage and yellow peppers are packed with vitamins and antioxidants. The antioxidants help decrease your skins sensitivity to the sun. There are also studies that have shown women you eat peppers regularly have fewer wrinkles around the eyes.

9. Nuts

Nuts containing omega-3 fatty acids help improve skin’s elasticity. Zinc and selenium found in nuts help with fighting break outs.

10. Pomegranates

Loaded with antioxidants, pomegranates help fight free radicals and regulate blood flow to help keep skin glowing.
